It is well known among Porsche lovers that the Porsche management wanted to replace by the more luxurious and more modern Porsche 928. As soon as the news that fromn1981 on The Porsche 911 would disappear and be replaced by the 928, lots of protest letters started to arrive at the factory and at dealerships all over the world. Real Porsche aficionados couldn’t imagine the factory would ban the production of the Porsche flagship. The Porsche management seems to have been impressed by the overwhelmingnnegative reaction of the public and they decided to continue the Porsche 911 production line.
History proves this was the only good decision, as the 911 SC made it possible for the Porsche factory to survive the hard economical period the early eighties were. Even more, the Carrera 3.2, the 964, 993, 996 and 997 make sure that the legend still exists.
The Porsche 911SC was soon well-known for its reliability as many of these cars drove many hundreds of thousands of kilometers without any major repair needed. The 3.0 liter engine is considered as almost undestroyable, and the simple mechanics allow even the hobbyist to maintain and repair the car.
