International Porsche Collectors Day 2017

In 2016 Henk Koop, president of the Porsche Model Club Europe and Mark Wegh, owner of the Porsche Center Gelderland, joined forces. Both are vivid collectors of Porsche models, with Mark Wegh even having one of the largest Porsche Model collection worldwide. With the succes of  the Schorndorf Porsche Swap Meet in mind, they thought it wouldn’t harm nobody when another Porsche Swap meet was set up. The International Porsche Collectors day was born, and it turned out to be a succes.

Reason enough to repeat the formula. In 2016 the International Porsche Collectors Day was on a Saturday, this year Mark Wegh opened the Porsche Classic Centre on Sunday for the exhibitors. About the same number of exhibitors coming from the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany,  Austria. The number of visitors however was not exactly as expected, even though it was great weather to get the classic Porsche out for a ride to the Collectors Day. Probably there was not enough fuzz about the swap meet in advance, so I can only encourage the organization to continue the event, and make lots of noise about it.

The different exhibitors had lots of different stuff on the tables, from the cheapest miniatures to highly collectible literature and memorabilia. We even noticed some ultra rare Jagdwagen manuals, the extremely rare Porsche Ski Meeting Zurs Memorial books that drew lots of attention. Manuals of all kinds changed hands, enamel plates, toys, … name it and you’d probably find it somewhere on a table.
The International Porsche Collectors Day is definitely worth the visit. In my opinion this event can only grow, and could turn into an event like the Los Angeles Lit and Toy show.
