Preview Le Mans Classic 2018

But let’s not forget what Le Mans Classic 2018 is all about. And that is racing. And ooh yeah we Porsche fans will be spoiled on the track too. There are 7 important race series during the Le Mans Classic 2018 weekend with Porsches involved next to several demonstration runs like the Global Endurance Legends or the Jaguar Race. Group C racing looks very promising with approximately 25% of the entries bearing the Porsche crest on the front hood : 13 out of 44 entries on the current entry list are Porsche 956 or Porsche 962. No need to tell you the atmosphere of Le Mans of the late 80s and early 90s will be back.

Le Mans Classic 2016
Porsche 356

Grid 1 covering the period from 1923 – 1939 is the only grid without Porsches. Even though this might be interesting, for Porsche fans that’s the grid to go find some food or explore the village with exhibitors. In Grid 2, covering the period from 1949 – 1956 there are 6 Porsche 356 and a single Porsche 550 Spyder. Grid 3 covers the years 1957 – 1961. This grid has 9 Porsches : the Porsche 718 RS60 from Peter Vögele that was recently at work in the Spa Classic 2018. Another fullblood race car is the Porsche 550A Spyder from Freisinger. Next to these 2 Spyders, 7 Porsche 356 in Grid 2.

14 Porsches are racing in Grid 4 that covers 1962 -1965. Next to the suspected early Porsche 911 with 2.0 liter engine, 7 to be exact, there are no less than 5 1964 Porsche 904 Carrera GTS in the race. And as if that is not enough eye candy, you can add 2 1966 Porsche 906 Carrera 6 to the list. The years 1966 to 1971 are covered in Grid 5. And here it becomes really impressive : 17 Porsches on the track. Not impressive enough ?

Le Man Classic 2016 – Porsche 906 Carrera 6

Well of these 17 Porsche entries, there are 5 Porsche 917, 1 of just 20 1967 Porsche 911R, 3 Porsche 910,  4 Porsche 906, 1 Porsche 908/2 and some Porsche 911s.
Grid 6 , that covers 1972 – 1981 has no less than 30 Porsches running. How about Jürgen Barth at the wheel of a 1981 Porsche 924 GTR, or battles between several  Porsche 935 and Porsche 935K3, or the Porsche 911 RSR 3.0 liter and the Porsche 930 Turbo.  An amazing entry list that promises nothing but excitement and tension on the track.
