The Porsches at the 2017 Amelia Island Auctions : the results

The 3 major auction houses brought some great cars to the auctions on the occasion of the Amelia Island Concours d’elegance. It wasn’t an offer as it was last year, when Jerry Seinfeld brought some 20 cars of his collection to the auctions. This year however a great number of Porsche of the RS range crossed the block, as we mentioned in our Amelia Island auction preview.

RM Sotheby’s Auctions

The Devin D Porsche that we brought under your attention in our auction preview was hammered at $88.000 premiums included. Not the best price but as this is not the most wanted car by most Porsche collectors,  I guess the seller went home with a smile. Most of the Porsches at RM Sotheby’s were sold for  prices in the estimated price range. To my great surprise the 1962 Porsche 356 Carrera 2 remained unsold. Maybe even more surprisingly was the No Sale of the 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS Touring.

Bonhams Auctions

The first Porsche that was brought to the podium at Bonhams was a true bargain. Hadn’t the Porsche fans arrived yet? Was something wrong with the car? We don’t know but you won’t find a 1965 Porsche 356C real soon for a stunning low $44.000.

Gooding & Co Auctions

Porsche 934/5
Porsche 934/5

One of the eye catchers of the Gooding & Co Auction was the 1998 Porsche 911 GT1 Strassenversion. I presume many of the attendees at the auction were having huge fan when the fight for this rare car was going on. A big hurray for the buyer that won the fierce auction battle in the end with a hammer price of a stunning $5.665.000. A word record for a car like this. Gooding had more cars that hit the million dollar mark. The 1994 Porsche 911 Turbo S Leichtbau sold for $1.540.000 and the 1977 Porsche 934/5 changed hand for $1.375.000.

Amazingly some great cars remained unsold : the rare 1998 Porsche 993 3.8 RSR , the 1988 Porsche 959 Komfort and the 1962 Porsche 356 Carrera 2 Coupe. All of them cars that deserve a place in a respected Porsche Collection. However they couldn’t convince anyone to bid the reserve price.
