The Antwerp Concours d’Elegance is a high-level classic car event. In the majestic gardens of the Kasteel Belvédère in Wijnegem, close to Antwerp. The organization presents rare and exotic sports- and luxury cars, prewar cars, racecars, and one-offs from all European countries. Since the inaugural edition in 2005, the Antwerp Concours switched several times to finally strike down in Wijnegem at the current location This year the event celebrated 16 years of existence and welcomed the public and participants in a Covid safe environment.
As usual, the complete gardens of the castle served as a playground for the Antwerp Concours d’Elegance. And one needed some time to stroll around in the gardens to admire all the beauties on display. As we all know, an event like Antwerp Concours d’Elegance is not only about cars. It is about the people too. And the odds were high that one met another friend who was showing his car, or just strolling around too. All had just one thing in common: a passion for beautiful classic cars.
Porsche Speedsters and Spyders
A major set up in the event was the presentation of several different Porsche Speedsters and Spyders. The Porsche 356 Zagato, one of only 9 built, was an eye-catcher. Even though most Porsche fans are familiar with the ex Josef Jeser Porsche 550 Spyder (Chassis 550-016), it is always a sheer pleasure to see the car, either driving or in a static display as a Concours d’Elegance. And its presence could convince the international jury too as it took home the price in the Cat. Porsche Speedsters & Spyders. The line-up continued with a Porsche 356 Speedster owned by Pascal Pauwels, president of the Porsche Classic Club Belgium. One of them was a 1984 Porsche 911 Speedster, one of 7 pre-production Speedsters.
In Belgium, a display with Porsches is almost unthinkable without at least one Porsche of the 911Motorsport collection. Nothing else was true. A 1989 small body Porsche 911 Speedster lined up. And the real gem of their collection, the original 1967 Porsche 911 R joined the club and took home the trophy in the Cat. GT Racing 1960-1969 ‘Endurance heroes’.
