The German version of the Goodwood Revival
Classic car lovers that can’t make it to the Goodwood Revival, have a great alternative at hand. The park of the castle Schloss Dyck in Jüchen is transformed into another world during the Classic Days Schloss Dyck once again in the 1st weekend in August of 2019. The Schloss Dyck castle is one of the most important moated castles in the Rhineland in terms of cultural history. It’s huge park hosts one of the finest classic car events in Germany.
The Concours d´Elegance at Schloss Dyck MASTERPIECES has been an established event for many years. On the Orangerie peninsula you can see rare brands, incredibly beautiful elegant or unique bodies in a high-quality kaleidoscope of automotive history. Wonderful vehicle design is presented here against the unique backdrop of the green castle grounds. A fantastic split-window Porsche 356 pre A was one of our personal highlights at the Concours d’Elegance.
During our visit on Friday, there were unfortunately no demonstration runs on the track. However Arturo Merzario, who used to team up for a while with Kurt Ahrens, couldn’t resist to drive a Alfa Romeo race car. Volkswagen Classic had a strong representation at the Classic Days Schloss Dyck. Even former head of the Porsche Archives, Dieter Landenberger, who is now working for VW, showed up. A fantastic Porsche 918 Spyder from Volkswagen’s Autostadt Museum was driven on the track on Friday. The Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo they brought to the Classic Days unfortunately didn’t come in action.
The Porsche 917 celebrates its 50th anniversary. We’ve seen that just a week before the Classic Days at the Solitude Revival. And nothing else was the case at the Classic Days Schloss Dyck. A David Piper replica Porsche 917 stood on display next to the original one of Dirk Sadlowski, a car that can be seen at events like Le Mans Classic too.
The dozens of shops at the lawn of the Schloss Dyck castle bring quite some atmosphere. You see classic cars all over the place. You can easily spend hours and hours in the park, next to the track where the demonstration runs take place. And of course there is plenty of opportunity to catch up with folks that share the same passion for cars and life-style. You better join next year.
