Porsche 356 Pre A

The Porsche 356 Pre-A refers to the earliest production versions of the Porsche 356, built between 1948 and 1955 before the introduction of the 356A in late 1955. Only 50 cars were made before Porsche moved to Stuttgart.

1950–1951: Early Stuttgart Production

  • 1950: Porsche relocates to Stuttgart, Germany, and starts series production of the 356 Coupe and Cabriolet.
  • Body: Now made of steel (by Reutter).
  • Engines Available:
    • 1.1L Flat-4 (40 hp)
    • 1.3L Flat-4 (44 hp)

  • Windshield: Split windshield (replaced by a bent windshield in 1952).

1952–1953: The “Bent-Windshield” 356
