Cadillac grabs pole and 2nd, Porsche starts Le Mans 24 Hours from 3rd and 5th.

On June 13, 2025, Porsche Penske Motorsport’s factory team secured excellent grid positions for the iconic endurance race: their two top Porsche 963 prototypes will begin the 24 Hours of Le Mans from 3rd and 5th places respectively.

Hyperpole Thrills

During a dramatic Hyperpole session on Thursday evening, Julien Andlauer and Mathieu Jaminet drove the #5 Porsche 963 into the coveted second row, clinching 3rd place on the grid. The session unfolded in two tense phases—first to determine the top 10 qualifiers, then a final shootout. Both French drivers delivered when it counted, with Andlauer stepping up brilliantly.

Not far behind, Felipe Nasr (Brazil) and Nick Tandy (UK) secured 5th place in the #4 car, just two grid spots back .

In the LMGT3 category, the Manthey 1st Phorm Porsche 911 GT3 R achieved 5th on the starting grid, a solid result ahead of more than 320,000 spectators .

Driver Reactions

  • Julien Andlauer (#5): “My stint ended early when I lost the right-rear wheel, but fortunately it didn’t trigger a red flag. On my fastest lap, the car felt excellent. Making the top 10 and into Hyperpole was a strong achievement.”
  • Felipe Nasr (#4): “We improved the setup significantly in the first Hyperpole round. With low fuel and fresh tyres, driving flat-out was a blast—especially with that sunset!”
  • Richard Lietz (Porsche 911 GT3 R #92): “That was the perfect lap. Starting fifth in class among 24 entries gives us a great opportunity. Now it’s all about what happens over 24 hours.”
