Peking to Paris Rallye : stop in Ypres

The Peking to Paris Motor Challenge is unique in the motoring world . The endurance motor rally follows in the wheel-tracks of the original pioneers of 1907. Driving an old car nearly half way around the world with a bunch of like-minded enthusiasts, against the clock, with the added spice of timed sections, makes Peking to Paris the longest and toughest driving challenge for Vintage and Classic cars. The 2019 Peking to Paris Rallye 2019 was a 36-day adventure over approximately 8500 miles. The itinerary took the participants through China, Mongolia, Russia, Kazakhstan, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Poland, Germany, Belgium and France.

All cars built before 1976 are eligible to participate. The rally takes an exciting route via gravel, sand and stunning roads, luxurious hotels and desert camping. All this makes it a never-fo-forget experience for the participants. The oldest car at the start was a 1907 Contal Mototri Tricycle. And what is a rallye without a Porsche at the start. Among the 120 participants, you could spot 9 Porsches.

Probably the most remarkable among these was the 1956 Porsche 356A of Renee Brinkerhoff / Calvin Cooledge. The Valkyree Racing Team participated in the Peking – Paris rallye as a part of their Porsche 356 World Rally Tour. In October 2017, Renée Brinkerhoff embarked on the ultimate challenge of her 1956 Porsche 356 by attempting to rally the classic Porsche on all seven continents, including Antarctica. Project 356 World Rally Tour consists of six races worldwide with a combined total of more than 20,000 miles. Running across some of the world’s most extreme landscapes, the Porsche 356 will be developed to rally flat out on all terrains, in parts of the world that have never seen a Porsche 356 before.

The Peking to Paris Rally is an event by Endurance Rally Association.
