Porsche aims for victory at the 73rd 12 Hours of Sebring following Daytona triumph

Following their victory at the season opener in Daytona, the Porsche Penske team is aiming for success at the prestigious 12 Hours of Sebring with its 2 Porsche 963 entries. Additionally, 2 customer teams, JDC-Miller MotorSports and Proton Competition, will enter hybrid prototypes in the top-tier GTP class. In the GT categories, partner teams will field a total of 4 Porsche 911 GT3 R cars. Porsche has an impressive history at Sebring. Aren’t we all curious whether they’ll be able to make the list of victories even longer?

The 12 Hours of Sebring will take place for the 73rd time on March 15. During an official IMSA test in February, the Porsche Penske Motorsport team undertook extensive preparations for the endurance classic. Factory driver Matt Campbell posted the fastest lap during the two-day test session in the No. 6 Porsche 963. This year, the two Porsche 963s from Porsche Penske Motorsport, alongside customer-entered prototypes from JDC-Miller MotorSports and Proton Competition, will face even tougher competition in the GTP class, as Aston Martin makes its debut in IMSA’s premier category.

“The 24 Hours of Daytona was a hard-fought battle from start to finish, and we expect nothing less for the second round at Sebring,” said Thomas Laudenbach, Vice President of Porsche Motorsport. “We’re eager to take on the new competition from Aston Martin. Our race cars are global brand ambassadors, and we thrive on competing against strong fields. The tougher the opposition, the more rewarding the victories. All Porsche teams are determined to succeed at Sebring.”

“During recent test sessions, we continued refining the optimal setup for Sebring International Raceway,” added Urs Kuratle, Director of Factory Motorsport LMDh. “With its notorious bumps, the track presented challenges last year. The test results were promising, though they don’t provide a definitive picture of the competition for race day. Since its debut in January 2023, the Porsche 963 has been the most successful car in the LMDh category, a fact we reinforced with our Daytona win. We plan to continue that momentum at Sebring.”

“The 12-hour race is one of the calendar highlights,” emphasized Jonathan Diuguid, Managing Director of Porsche Penske Motorsport. “We’re still chasing our first win at Sebring. In 2023, we were leading with just 20 minutes to go when both Porsche 963s were involved in an incident. Our clear objective is to claim victory in this prestigious event. After our Daytona triumph, we’re more determined than ever.”

Factory drivers Matt Campbell (Australia), Mathieu Jaminet (France), and Kévin Estre (France) will share driving duties in the No. 6 Porsche Penske Motorsport 963. In the Daytona-winning No. 7 car, Felipe Nasr (Brazil) and Nick Tandy (UK) will be joined by reigning World Endurance Champion Laurens Vanthoor (Belgium). In Proton Competition’s customer-entered Porsche 963, Swiss driver Neel Jani will team up with Chile’s Nico Pino and France’s Tristan Vautier. The JDC-Miller MotorSports hybrid prototype will be driven by Italy’s Gianmaria Bruni, Dutch racer Tijmen van der Helm, and Porsche factory driver Nico Müller from Switzerland. Müller, a regular with the Formula E customer team Andretti, will make his debut in the Porsche 963.

After a podium finish in the GTD class at Daytona, Wright Motorsports is fielding a strong lineup at Sebring. Americans Elliott Skeer and Adam Adelson will pair with Australian driver Tom Sargent. In the pink-liveried Iron Dames 911 GT3 R, Denmark’s Michelle Gatting, Switzerland’s Rahel Frey, and Belgian Sarah Bovy will be looking to make their mark.

Driver Quotes Ahead of the 12 Hours of Sebring

Matt Campbell (Porsche 963 #6): “Sebring is special, not just because of the brutal bumps. It’s one of the highlights of the year. Our recent test there was important. Last year’s endurance test also gave us valuable insights. I believe we’re well-prepared, and the team’s morale is fantastic after our Daytona win.”

Felipe Nasr (Porsche 963 #7): “After our fantastic win at Daytona, we tested at Sebring in mid-February. I can’t wait to get back in the Porsche and push for another victory. The 12 Hours of Sebring is one of the toughest races, with relentless bumps, changing track conditions, and fierce competition. We know what it takes to be at the front, and we’re going all in.”

Neel Jani (Porsche 963 #5): “This will be my first time driving the Porsche 963 at Sebring, and I’m excited. I have great memories here—I won overall in 2022 and would love to repeat that. It won’t be easy, as we missed the recent test, but in IMSA, anything can happen. That’s what makes this series so thrilling.”
