January is the start of the new year. That’s the least one could say. Traditionally,January is the month that all the major auction houses have their annual auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. And ofcourse nothing else this year. Will the temperature rise again, and will the prices for the classic cars keep sky rocketing ? Or will everything cool down a bit. Hard to predict what it will be. All we can do is take a quick look at the Porsches that will go under the hammer in a few weeks, and highlight the most important of them.
RM Sotheby’s
2 Porsche 356 Cabriolets and 2 Porsche 356 Speedster will be auctioned at RM Sotheby’s. So if you are in for an open car from the 50s era, this might be the spot for you. Keep in mind that these cars will not be cheap.
One of the eye catchers of the RM Sotheby’s auction is the 2016 porsche 911 Carrera GTS Rennsport Reunion Edition. Only 25 of these cars were produced on the occasion of the last Porsche Rennsport Reunion at the Laguna Seca Raceway. The car has only 72 miles on the tacho and is expected to reach a $250K – $300K hammer price. A rare opportunity to acquire one of these collector’s items. Another rare gem is the 1996 Porsche 911 GT2. One of only 57 homologated GT2s and this one has only 33.000 kms on the tacho. Estimated price is a breathtaking $1,25mio – $1,5mio. Another car that is expected to reach the $1mio mark is the 1987 Porsche 959 Komfort. The car has 13.000 km on the tacho and had a full service recently.

Gooding & Co
In the market for a Porsche 959 Comfort? Next to the RM Sotheby’s, there’s another one going on the block. Gooding & Co offers you one with just 22.000 km on the tacho. After spending several years of it’s life in the UK, the car moved to the US where the engine was completely rebuilt and resealed by Porsche 959 specialist Callas Rennsport in Torrance, California. Gooding & Co has some earlier Porsche 911s too. As you could expect, they all have a rather high estimate. But there’s no doubt in my opinion they will reach the high estimates and change hands. Another Porsche 1996 Porsche 911 GT2 will be sold. The largely original car just shows over 36,000 Km from new and is offered with tool roll and owner’s handbooks. Estimated price for this one is $1,3mio – $1,6mio

Bonhams
3 real eye-catchers at the Bonhams auction. 2 cars from a whole different era but both well worth to end up in a high quality Porsche collection. The 1953 Porsche 356 Pre A Cabriolet is One of just 394 Pre-A Cabriolets built in 1953. Hard to say how many of these beauties still exist but it is pretty sure that won’t be a lot? It is assumed that the car was delivered in Europe by an American buyer who shipped it to the USA. The car is believed to be part of the Bill Cosby Collection once. A rare opportunity to obtain an early Cabriolet as they don’t show up for sale a lot? The 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder is the latest supercar produced by Porsche with illustrious predecessors like the Porsche 959 ,the Porsche GT1 and the Porsche Carrera GT. Not everyone was lucky enough to be able to buy a Porsche 918 Spyder, not even with a wallet deep enough to afford it. They come up for sale every once in a while but catch prices well over the initial selling price. This one is a highly optioned US Spec 918 Spyder, One owner and has less than 1,000 miles from new.
Historically spoken the 1964 Porsche 904 Carrera GT Is definitely the most important car that will be sold at the Scottsdale Auctions. The Porsche 904-048 has spent some time at the track during it’s early years after which it spend 2 decades in rest. Later it moved to Denmark where it had it’s original engine installed again. This is a unique opportunity for the collectors with a deep wallet to acquire a highly original and rare Porsche 904 Carrera GTS.

Barret-Jackson
Barret-Jackson is not the place where the true collectors will find the rare gems. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t find proper cars at the Barret-Jackson auction. Once again approximately 30 Porsches will be hammered. Worth to take a look when you are looking for a decently priced daily driver or an early Porsche 911 that ‘s not meant to be a garage queen but should rather serve as a fun car or weekend driver. Exceptionally there’s a low-mileage 2005 Porsche Carrera GT at Barret-Jackson. Good to know is that all cars are sold without reserve so this might be your lucky day .
