The 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, chassis number 3413, is slated to sell at the RM Sotheby’s sale and could become the most expensive car to sell at auction. But ofcourse our eyes are directed to the Porsches that will be auctioned. And there are quite some nice ones. Are you into rare Porsche race cars ? Then the RM Sotheby’s Monterey Auction might be a huge opportunity to acquire 2 of them. And the race cars are not the only rare birds that will come on the block in the RM Sotheby’s Monterey Auction   No less than 3 RUF’s will be auctioned too, and  you won’t find opportunities like that quite often.

The 1968 Works Porsche 908

How often does an ex Works Porsche race car comes up for sale ? I can assure you that it is not often. Only 5 Porsche 908’s with a short-tail body were made. The Porsche 908 that will be auctioned at RM Sotheby’s auction is Porsche 908-010. Vic Elford and Jochen Neerpasch drove the car in the 1968 1000 KM of Spa (Belgium) on May 26th 1968. The car was entered in the Prototype 3000 Class by Porsche Systems Engineering. In that same race, sister car Porsche 908-011 was at the start with Rolf Stommelen and Hans Herrmann at the wheel. During the race, rain was continuously pouring down, bringing visualibility to virtually zero. Jochen Neerpasch crashed the car. The remains of Porsche 908-010 were transported back to Stuttgart to be disassembled and stored. Later it was sold to a Swiss collector. It took decades before American Porsche specialist Dale Miller located the car and brought it to the USA where the car spend some time in the collection of Bill Ferran. The car was restored and could be seen at Rennsport Reunion in 2004 where it did some demonstration laps. In december 2006, Cameron Healy bought the car to use it in classic car events at the West Coast of the USA.  In 2016,  Porsche 908-010 was awarded Best in Class in the Forest Grove Concours d’Elegance, in a special group of Porsche cars judged buy renowned Porsche specialist Miles Collier and Dr. Julio Palmaz. The lucky new owner is eligible to race the car at the Porsche Rennsport Reuinon 2018 next September.
