Antwerp Classic Salon 2014

SIHA, the organization behind 2 of the major car shows in Germany, Technoclassica and the Essen Motorshow, had their general rehearsal in Antwerp with the Antwerp Classic Salon. In it’s 37th edition yet, the main theme of the Antwerp Classic Salon was the 100th anniversary of Maserati.
With about 350 exhibitors from 14 nations in an exhibition area of 20.000 square metres and close to 30.000 visitors, the Antwerp Classic Salon is not only the leading vintage car show in Belgium, but one of the major shows in Europe too. This expresses itself in what’s offered to the public. Parts, literature, toys, memorabilia, accessories, models and the presentation of museums and clubs.
Traditionaly the Antwerp Classic Salon has lots of Porsche stuff to offer, partly because of the vivid vintage Porsche scene in Belgium and the presence of the Porsche Classic Club Belgium having their headquarters in the Antwerp region. Ofcourse you cannot imagine a vintage car show in the Benelux, without the presence of at least one of the remarkable cars of the State-of-Art collection. The State-of-Art honours were defended by the truly astonishing 1957 Porsche 718-004 RSK this time.

This particular car was a factory racer, which drove the 1958 Le Mans 24H, the Freiburg European Hill Climbs, the AVUS race in Berlin, the Innsbruck Flugplatzrennen and at the Nurburgring. Among the pilots that drove this Porsche 718 were Richard von Frankenberg, Claude Storez, Edgar Barth, Jean Behra, Carel Godin de Beaufort and Huschke von Hanstein.
Lots of Porsches for sale at the Antwerp show too, and again the rising prices of the pre 1974 Porsches 911 are confirmed, with a stunning 260.000 euro asking price for a 1965 Porsche 911. It even becomes more and more obvious that the less fortunate Porsche lovers are trying to satisfy their needs, buy acquiring a Porsche 912, which used to be a long time the less-beloved and undervalued small brother of the 911. Times are changing, proven by a asking price of 75.000 euro for a Porsche 912 soft-window Targa.
