Porsche celebrates the 75th anniversary of producing sports cars. Obviously that means, Porsches have been competing in races and rallies all over the globe the last 7,5 decades. That resulted in numerous successes and countless victories, achieved both in renowned races or on amateur level. But as a Porsche advertisement once said ‘There are no old Porsches, just new owners’, a Porsche race car never stops being a Porsche race ar. And that means that many of the cars that fough for victory decades ago, are still being used by their new owners.

&Historic races are very popular, and that’s exactly where the current caretakers of these cars bring them Back on Track. And that’s exactly where the history of each of these cars, often very rare, lives on. Sometimes exciting, sometimes tragic, but always fascinating. And that is what the emotion a reader has reading ‘Back on Track’ too. The author and photographer, Rüdiger Mayer, known from the Racing & Recipes book, spent many hours on race tracks and historic events ( Spa Classic, Zandvoort Historic GP, Rennsport Reunion or Le Mans Classic to name just a few) to shoot the stars of the track.

34 different cars all have their own chapter in ‘Back on Track Porsche’. From the Otto Mathé Fetzenflieger to the Porsche 919 Hybrid, from the Porsche 718 Spyder to the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Rallye, from ice racing to track racing, you’ll find it all in this unique book. Rüdiger Mayer explains the stories and history of each car in a short, but detailed and well researched way. And on top of that, his photography skills are more than average, so each chapter is accompanied by some fantastic pictures.

The foreword of ‘Back on Track’ is by Jürgen Barth, Roland Kussmaul and Norbert Singer And that brings these legends Back on Track too. ‘Back on Track Porsche’ is a great book, but unfortunately only available (so far?) in German. But the magnificent photos make it up for those that don’t master the German language. The book is available in both a regular edition and a limited and numbered edition of 75 copies, in a slipcase and autographed by the 3 gentlemen that wrote the foreword. And for the real collectors, 2 different Limited Art editions (Type 934 & Type 718-WRS) of just 20 copies are available for a price of 296€.
