Porsche has unveiled the 911 Spirit 70, a limited-edition convertible that pays homage to the vibrant spirit of the 1970s and early 1980s. Limited to just 1,500 units, this model is the third installment in Porsche’s Heritage Design series, following the 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition (2020) and the 911 Sport Classic (2022).

Retro-Inspired Design

The 911 Spirit 70 features an exclusive Olive Neo exterior colour, complemented by Bronzite accents on the front and rear sections, as well as on the Sport Classic wheels. Black decorative stripes run across the front hood, reminiscent of safety decals from the 1970s. The side graphics include Porsche lettering and a customizable start number field, known as the “lollipop,” further emphasizing its vintage racing aesthetic.

Funny thing is that a the 70ish Porsche 911 Turbo look lettering on the front bonnet is similar to the one a Belgian Porsche collector had designed by Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur for his one-off Porsche 911 Turbo S, a car he had designed as a tribute for this grandfather, the first Belgian 911 Turbo owner in 1975. Actually he wanted the lettering to be identical to the one used in the 70s but there was no way a Porsche would leave the factory without the crest on the bonnet. So the lettering had to be redesigned to make sure that the crest was in the middle of the lettering…

Interior with a Nod to the Past

Inside, the cabin showcases the iconic Pasha pattern on the centre panels of the 18-way Sports Seats Plus, door panels, and even the glove compartment. The instrument cluster features white pointers and scale lines in an analogue format, with green digits that harken back to the legendary Porsche 356. The Sport Chrono stopwatch also adopts this classic colour scheme.

Modern Performance

Under the hood, the 911 Spirit 70 is based on the current 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet and incorporates Porsche’s new hybrid system. This combines a newly developed 3.6-litre boxer engine with an electric motor, delivering a total output of 398 kW (541 hp) and 610 Nm of torque. The integration of the high-voltage system, eTurbo, and the electric motor in the new PDK transmission ensures efficient performance.

Availability

The 911 Spirit 70 is available for order immediately and is expected to arrive at European dealerships from April 2025, with other markets to follow. I strongly believe that this 3rd 911 model in the Heritage Design Series will become a collector’s item. Price is unknown at the moment of writing, but I’m convinced you’ll have to have deep pockets to acquire one of these gems.
