In 2009, an idea took shape that had already played a role several times in the history of Porsche – that of a powerful, four-door touring sedan that also had sporty genes. As early as 1988, this goal had almost been achieved with the 989 prototypes, but the company decided against series production for strategic reasons. It was to take more than twenty years before this vision became reality with the Porsche Panamera.
That the design of this fourth model series was strongly reminiscent of the Porsche Cayenne? No coincidence. The Cayenne was not only the first production Porsche to have more than two doors, but it also paved the way for the layout with a water-cooled front engine and rear- or all-wheel drive. The Panamera complemented these features with supremely sporty handling that put it more in line with the Porsche 911 and a luxurious interior that made it a rolling business lounge. The second generation, presented in 2016, refined the range in every respect and also added advanced hybrid technology to the engine lineup.

“Porsche Panamera – von der Idee zur Perfektion” belongs to the first comprehensive book about one of the most successful Porsches. From its first thoughts in the 1950s to the present day – right up to the Panamera G2, which is the Porsche of choice in many countries around the world, both as a sedan and in the guise of the Panamera Sport Turismo. Definitely not the best book we have in our library, and you have to master the German language too. But it might be a worthy addition to the library of a Porsche Panamera fan, even though we think the price of 78€ is too high for the book.
