The Amelia Island Concours Week belongs to the most important highlights of the classic car season. The main event of course is the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance. The inaugural event took place in April of 1996. Meanwhile, it became an award-winning motoring event and won the coveted “Motoring Event of the Year” distinction from the International Historic Motoring Awards both in 2013 and 2016. Traditionally some of the major auction houses host an auction at Amelia Island too. At the bottom of the article, we listed all the Porsches that will come up for auction. But let’s first have a closer look at some of them.

Porsche 718 RSK and Porsche 718 RS61

Not very often a Porsche Spyder comes up for sale, let alone 2 of them. However, that is exactly what we are telling you. Broad Arrow Auctions brings a Porsche 718 RSK (Chassis 718-024) to Amelia Island. Gooding & Co. has a successor of that car in the auction, a Porsche 718 RS61 (Chassis 718-076). Both are extremely rare cars and rarely come up for sale. Both cars have competed in major races and were driven by legendary racers. The RSK’s first entry in a race was the 1959 Le Mans 24H, with Ed Hugus as a driver. The car had to retire and spent another few months in Europe to serve as a hillclimb car for Edgar Barth before it was shipped to the USA. The Porsche RS61 was delivered new to Austrian racing driver Hermann Müller, who campaigned it in numerous hill climbs and circuit races through 1963 before selling it to a South African who relocated the car. It changed hands several times and then was sold by an American in the mid-70s who shipped it to the USA.

1957 Porsche 356 A 1500 GS/GT Carrera Speedster

In 1955, less than a year after the 356 Speedster model was introduced, Porsche built the first example equipped with the competition-derived four-cam Carrera engine. In 1957, Porsche began to offer a GT option for the 1500 GS Carrera model, and the car in the auction is one of the cars equipped with that. Only 151 Carrera Speedsters were built between 1955 and 1959, and just 90 of them had the GS/GT designation. No wonder the estimated hammer price is in the price range of 1.3 – 1.5 million US Dollars.

2019 Porsche 935

Porsche presented the modern Porsche 935 at the Rennsport Reunion in 2018. The car was a gimmicked Porsche 911 GT2 RS and only 77 customers were lucky enough to acquire the car, which wasn’t even road-legal. The new Porsche 935 was a track-only special that paid homage to the original 935 race cars. Immediately the car sold out. In the meantime one of them occasionally comes up for sale, all low-mileage, and often with a price tag double the price of what the original owners paid for. Chassis WP0ZZZ99ZKS199176 is no exception. This is the second to last of the 77 cars and comes with delivery mileage.

1971 Porsche 914/6 GT Werks Monte Carlo Rally

Beginning in 1970, just one year after the debut of the 914, Porsche offered a racing variant of its mid-engine sports car, dubbed the 914/6 GT. Chassis 9141430141 is one of only 12 factory Werkswagen 914/6 GT built for the 1970 and 1971 race seasons. After being raced in the 1971 Rally of Monte-Carlo, late Porsche engineer Walter Näher bought the car and kept it in immaculate condition for approximately 30 years before selling it. Later in the car’s life, Jeff Zwart became the caretaker.
At this very moment, the car still has an originality that is rarely seen with race cars and could be the eye-catcher in your collection soon.
