Under normal circumstances, Paris would have been the epicenter of the classic car world at the beginning of February. Not only Paris Rétromobile, considered among the best classic car shows in the world, would take place. There used to be some great classic car auctions organized in Paris on the occasion of Paris Retromobile too.
However, due to the current health situation, Paris Rétromobile was rescheduled and will now take place March 16 – 20. Artcurial moved its auction too. But another world-leading auction house Bonhams still has its legendary ‘Les Grandes Marques’ auction next February 3rd. Let’s take a closer look at some of the excellent Porsches they will bring up for sale.
Porsche 904 Carrera GTS chassis 904-012
When Ferdinand Alexander Butzi Porsche designed the Porsche 904, he told this car had everything he wished for, Even later he was very proud of the design and called it the most beautiful car he ever designed. A Porsche 904 Carrera GTS is a car that comes up for sale only every once and a while. Chassis 904-012 has both a racing provenance, as a celebrity ownership. The car raced in the 1964 and 1965 race season. After its race career, actor Robert Redford bought the car and owned it for about 10 years. It changed hands several times after that, to finally return to Europe. The car comes with a 2.0 liter Porsche 911 engine. However, the buyer can acquire a period-correct 4-Cam engine from the current Danish owner.
Porsche 356 Carrera 2
Only 27 Porsche 356 Porsche 356 Carrera 2 left the factory with a sunroof. Chassis 120081 is one of them.On top of that, it left the factory with the long-distance fuel tank, and annular Carrera brakes. In 1992, the car underwent a complete body restoration. Peter Iversen, the renowned Danish Porsche connaisseur, rebuilt the period correct type 587/1 engine. Just as the Porsche 904 Carrera GTS, this rare gem should by considered by any serious Porsche collector.
High and low mileage cars.
Bonhams has a wide selection of cars in the current ‘Les Grandes Marques’ auction. Remarkable is the 2016 Porsche 911 Turbo S with over 333.000 kilometers on the counter. You can clearly state this car has been used thoroughly by the consignor. We wonder whether this very high mileage car will find a new owner. On the contrary, a 2019 Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 Weissach with just 50 km on the counter will probably attract much interest. This car might end up in a high-end collection.
