The Porsches at the 2017 Paris Retromobile auctions : the results

As we all know, the last few years, the prices of Porsches seem to be launched to the moon. However this trend seemed to be stopped. When you look at the results at the Scottsdale auctions some weeks ago. Was the top reached ? Well it just doesn’t look like that. However the market may have switched somehow to the limited production Porsche 911s. To my great surprise, the 2 eyecatchers at the Paris auctions did not reach the high expectations.

RM Sotheby

The 1964 Porsche 901 Cabriolet Prototype that came on the block was thought to reach the 1 million euro mark. Maybe a bit optimistic, but still < However it was only a post-auction bid that made the car being sold. With a hammer price of 649.600 € (including premiums) I presume the buyer was far more lucky than the seller.

The Porsche 917/10-001 Spyder prototype did not find a new owner, to my great surprise. I wonder where the car will show up next. Will it come to another auction in Europe ? Will it appear at the Techno Classica in Essen in a few months as it did 2 years ago ? Or will it be shipped to the USA to be offered for sale at the Pebble Beach auctions?  Or will it be stored in a safe place for another few years to reappear and hopefully catch a high price then ? I guess we’re all curious.

A world record price on the other hand for the Porsche 959S, and the 2016 Porsche 911R continues to reach extremely high prices at auctions. It assures it’s status as a car that may become one of the most wanted Porsches ever.

Artcurial Auction

The Porsche 356 Carrera 2 GS was the most important car at the Artcurial auction. With a hammer price (premiums included) of 548.340€, the car was right between the estimated low and high price.  Price was definitely lower as the prices of the  Porsche 356 Carrera 2’s that were shown at the Retromobile Show 2017.

Not the car that is best known in the Porsche world. However, true collectors might want to have a Mercedes-Benz 500E in their collection. A rather rare result of the co-operation between the 2 Stuttgart car manufacturers. A car baring the name Mercedes-Benz. These cars don’t come up for sale that much. I presume the hammer price of  just over 50K Euro is a correct price.
