The Porsche WSC-95 (sometimes referred to as the TWR WSC-95) was a Le Mans Prototype originally built by Tom Walkinshaw Racing. It was modified by Porsche from the original Group C Jaguar XJR-14 from which it was derived, and run by Joest Racing. Originally intended to race in the IMSA World Sportscar Championship, the WSC-95 saw very little race action even though it won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in both 1996 and 1997 without being acknowledged as a factory-supported project.

It was later upgraded to the Porsche LMP1-98 before being retired. Built on a modified Jaguar XJR-14 chassis by Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR) with Porsche engine and project approval to compete in the IMSA championship run according to WSC rules. Canceled due to regulation changes, Joest Racing Team took over the project and claimed back-to-back victories overall in 1996 and ’97. The Porsche TWR WSC-95 is probably the Porsche most unfamiliar among enthusiasts. Let alone that they knew much about the car.

Now, the unawareness is finally over. Serge van Bockryck, author of legendary books like ‘Works Porsche 956 – the definitive history‘ and “Ultimate WorksPorsche 962 – the definitive history” dived into the Porsche archives and interviewed engineers and mechanics with another masterpiece as a result “TWR- Porsche WSC-95 : the autobiography’ of WSC 001. Where other authors only mention the car in a book, Serge van Bockryck fills a complete work, over 300 pages, to uncover the complete history of the Porsche WSC-95.

This book is the first about this car and outlines in unprecedented detail its sometimes bizarre career. The author has had access to all relevant documentation in Porsche’s corporate archives in Stuttgart and has spoken to most of the key actors: Porsche Motorsport’s Norbert Singer, Max Welti, and Helmut Schmid, Porsche Motorsport North America’s Alwin Springer, Tom Walkinshaw Racing’s Tony Dowe, Joest Racing’s Ralf Jüttner, IMSA’s Mark Raffauf and drivers Mario Andretti, Stefan Johansson and Didier Theys.
