Track action at the circuit in the dunes
The race track in the dunes of Zandvoort hosted the Historic GP for the 6th consecutive year. And once again, the event turned out to be a succes as proven by the thousands and thousands of visitors. The Zandvoort Historic GP is a great tribute to the times when the actual F1 circus landed in the Netherlands. These times have long gone by, but the atmosphere during the Zandvoort Historic GP reflects exactly what it felt like back in the days.. and that’s why the Zandvoort Historic GP Slogan says : The boys are back in town.
After coming through the tunnel of the Zandvoort Race Track, the visitors are warmly welcomed by the dutch Porsche importer, who is one of the main partners of the Zandvoort Historic GP. And the exhibition of Porsche race cars at the Porsche stand was impressive : a Porsche 917K, producing a brutal sound when started up. Next to the Porsche 917K, a Porsche RS Spyder, a Porsche 908/3, a Porsche 936/81 and a Porsche 911 RSR. Al lthese cars came on the track in demonstration runs with Porsche legends Gijs van Lennep, Jan Lammers, Jürgen Barth and Harm Lagaaij at the wheel. After on of his drives in the Porsche 911 RSR 2.8, Harm Lagaaij quoted : “this is driving the way Porsche meant it when it designed the first Porsche in 1948”. Several autograph sessions during the weekend made it possible for the visitors to have their favorite memorabilia autographed, and have some nice chats with Le Mans winning legends.
3 days long, the visitors can enjoy both the atmosphere in the paddock, and the races on track. An experience that brings back a lot of memories to many of the visitors. And definitely not to be missed in 2018, when the boys will be back in town again.
