Dreamcar International is the vintage car show organised by the well-known Belgian Oldtimer Magazine, easy recognisable in the shops by it’s red cover. Since 1990 the Dreamcar International Car show was hosted in the Nekkerhallen in Mechelen. This year this same venue was unavailable, so the organisation decided to return to its roots. Exactly 30 years ago, in the same weekend of 20-21 december, the show took place in the Kortrijk Expo, the same spot where the show moved to this year.
Exactly as in Mechelen, a wide variety of vintage car related shops were present; making sure any visitor could find what he was looking for. Parts, toys, cars, clothes, tools, literature, companies providing services like vintage car insurance; clubs : name it and you could find it.
To my great surprise, and it was a pleasant one, there were lots of Porsches at the show. From the early Porsche 356, with a stunning untouched 1959 Porsche 356 A Cabriolet to the more recent Porsche 911’s. And once again, it was clear that looking at the price-cards of these beauties is not for the faint of hearts : there seems to come no end on the rise of the prices for these early products.
Dreamcar International was a worthy end of 2014, and we’re curious whether next year’s edition will be hosted in Kortrijk again or back to the traditional Nekkerhallen in Mechelen.
