Biography Antonio Felix da Costa
Antonio Felix da Costa grew up in family of racers and started karting at the age of nine. He competed in several domestic series. In 2008, he progressed into single-seaters. He finished 2nd in Formula Renault North European Cup in his very first year of competition with 1 victory on his account. In 2009 da Costa dominated the same championship, and crowned himself champion with no less than 9 victories. He also finished 3rd in the more competitive Eurocup with three wins
In 2010, Antonio climbed another step on the motorsports ladder to compete in Formula 3. That season, he wins 3 races and finds his way to 7th in the standings. One year later, despite a victory in the same series, da Costa finishes the season on 13th, which is rather disappointing for his terms. In 2010, he makes his first test laps in F1 for Force India. Mid-2012, Da Costa joined the Red Bull Junior Team as a replacement for Lewis Williamson, who failed to score any points in the first three Formula Renault 3.5 Series race weekends. Da Costa replaced Williamson at the Arden Caterham team for the race at the Nürburgring. In his first race, he immediately achieved ninth place. In 2010, he makes his first test laps in F1 for Force India.
That went along with a second year in GP3, and da Costa’s performances exploded in both categories. He finished 4th in the Formula Renault 3.5 with 4 wins, and 3rd in the GP3 with a trio of victories. He capped that off by winning the Macau F3 Grand Prix at the end of the year. 2013 saw him return to FR3.5 as a title favourite, but he was beaten into 3rd place by champion Kevin Magnussen and runner-up Stoffel Vandoorne. In 2014 he joined BMW in the DTM, and in 2015 took his first win in that category at Zandvoort.
Formula E
António Félix da Costa has been involved in Formula E since day one, when the world’s first electric racing series wrote a new chapter in motor racing history in 2014. In the inaugural season, da Costa started out his all-electric journey at the second round at Putrajaya as a driver for Team Aguri, where he raced for two seasons – securing an early maiden victory in his first three races at Buenos Aires. In the 2019/2020 season, he took home the championship title. So far in his Formula E career, he has contested 96 races with seven victories, 16 podium finishes and eight pole positions. Antonio Felix da Costa is a Porsche factory driver for theTAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team as from season 9.
Hobby’s
The new Porsche works driver is a self-proclaimed ‘sports junkie’. “I struggle to just sit on the couch and rest. Sport is important for my mental health.” The passionate surfer lives in Cascais, a picturesque coastal town just out of Lisbon. “I get up in the morning and look at the conditions. If the waves are good I get out there.” And if not? Then he grabs his golf bag.
