WeatherTech

Founded in 1989, David MacNeil started WeatherTech out of his home in Clarendon Hills, Illinois. Dissatisfied with the quality of existing automotive floor mats, WeatherTech began with importing the mats directly from England. However, Mr. MacNeil was convinced that he could create a better product right here in America, using American workers. So, in 2007 he made the decision to move production of his entire line of automotive accessories to America, opening facilities within the suburbs of Chicago.

Race Career

No surprise Cooper MacNeil has a heart for cars too. From an early age, he showed interest in his fathers growing car collection. Soon Cooper took the wheels and started racing. At the age of 18, Cooper won the National SCCA Touring 2 Points Championship and finished 2nd Place in the SCCA Runoffs at Road America. Just one year later, Cooper teams up with Joey Atterbury, Randy Pobst , and Derek Whitisand and shares the wheel of the Mitchum Motorsports Porsche 997 GT3 Cup. The team did not manage to bring the car to the finish in MacNeil’s first appearance at the Daytona 24H.

From 2012 to late 2016, Cooper MacNeil mainly raced for the Alex Job Racing Team, a former race team that ceased to exist in 2017. At that time, the first steps of the WeatherTech Racing team had already been set. Riley Motorsports – WeatherTech Racing stood up for the first time at the Daytona Test days in December 2016 in a Mercedes AMG GT3. The first half of the year MacNeil drove a Mercedes AMG GT3, the 2nd half a Porsche 991 GT3 R. For the Le Mans test days and the Le Mans 24H,  MacNeil shared the wheel of a Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 488.

In 2018, virtually no races for WeatherTech Racing, as MacNeil joined the Scuderia Corsa team the complete season to drive the Ferrari 488. Same story for 2019 and 2020, even though Cooper races under the WeatherTech Racing colors in both editions of the Le Mans 24H. As of 2021, WeatherTech Racing becomes very active again. The team enters a Porsche 991 RSR in the WeatherTech Imsa Championship. Next to MacNeil, the team hires mainly Porsche factory drivers (Laurens Vanthoor, Richard Lietz, Gianmaria Bruni, Kevin Estre, Earl Bamber…) to join him.
