Ferry Porsche hands over the keys of the 100.000th Porsche to the German police

Ferry Porsche hands over the 100.000th Porsche ever built to the German police.

December 21st 1966 was a memorable day in the history of Porsche. The 100.000th Porsche left the factory. After Porsche started the production of cars in 1948, it took them 18 years to achieve this major milestone. The car, a Porsche 912 soft-window Targa, was totally equipped with all possible options to make it useful as a police-car.  The car was covered with flowers and a sign to make clear it was the actual 100.000th Porsche ever built.  The mayor Arnold Klett, police and city officials attended the small celebration at the factory in Zuffenhause.  Ferry Porsche handed over the keys of this particular Porsche to the Baden-Württemberg state police. As a return, the mayor awarded Ferry Porsche, Karl Rabe and Huschke von Hanstein with gold medals of merit from the city of Stuttgart.

The 100.000th Porsche carried a silver dash plaque, engraved with the number 100.000.  In 1958, Porsche started delivering cars to the police, in several European countries. The 100.000th Porsche was the 125th car ever delivered to a police department. Underneath the official press release (in German) that expains the exact police equipment
