A fundraiser has been launched to raise financial support for legendary rallying and racing all-rounder Vic Elford, who is fighting cancer at the age of 85. Elford is known as one of the most versatile drivers ever. No matter which car Vic Elford took the wheel off in his heydays, he knew how to handle it and drive it fast. Obviously, driving fast earned him his nickname ‘Quick Vic.
For more than half a century, thousands of motorsports fans enjoyed his talent. 1968 remains his most successful year. It started with a victory in the Rally of Monte Carlo in a Porsche 911. Just 2 weeks later, Vic won the Daytona 24H in a Porsche 907, the first outright victory at Daytona for Porsche. And later that year, Elford took the checkered flag in the Targa Florio, again in a Porsche 907.
Nowadays, Vic Elford isn’t fighting his colleague-racers. Elford is suffering from an aggressive form of prostate cancer. On top of that, he broke a hip in a recent fall. Due to his health situation, Vic and his lovely wife Anita have to pay huge medical bills. They need to outfit their home with a stairlift and assistive mobility devices. Brian Redman, his former teammate, and fellow Florida resident started a fundraiser to support Vic Elford and his wife.
At the time of writing, over $40.000 has been collected. This is the time to help one of your idols. Click here to access A GoFundMe account that has been established to benefit Elford.
Note : April 28 close to $160.000 has been collected. Please keep on donating to help Quick Vic.
