Singer Vehicle Design, based in California, is a well-known Porsche restoration specialist. Well probably it is way more than that. No, you won’t win prices at a concours in the originality class with your Porsche 911 Reimagined by Singer. But we all know a restoration by Singer Vehicle Design exceeds restorations by any other Porsche restorer. And now we believe they even go another step further. Singer Vehicle Design presented the All-terrain Competition Study (ACS). The Singer ACS is inspired by the legendary rally cars like the Porsche 911 SC/RS and the Porsche 959 Paris Dakar.
A long-term client asked Singer Vehicle Design to reimagine his Porsche 911, and have it inspired by the World Rally Championship all-terrain competition cars. And who knows more about Porsche rally-cars than the renowned 911 rally specialist Richard Tuthill in the UK. After all, he helped prepare the Rothmans Porsche 911 SC/RS helped prepare in the 1980s. So Singer and Vehicle Design and Richard Tutthill partnered up to response to the request from their client. Build an air-cooled Porsche 911 that would enable the car to compete in off-road racing and to demonstrate extensive all-terrain exploration capabilities.
One for the road… another off-road
The client commissioned 2 cars : The Singer ACS in Singer’s iconic Parallax White focused on high-speed desert rallying. The second in Corsica Red is configured for high-speed, high-grip tarmac events and disciplines. The cars started from a 1990 Porsche 911 ( 964 model). The engine is a air-cooled 3.6-liter twin-turbo flat-six that makes at least 450 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque, with possibilities to tune it for higher output. The five-speed sequential transmission can be shifted manually or via paddle and routes power through all-wheel-drive with triple limited-slip differentials. Standard features include a full roll cage, oversized fuel tank, and storage for two spare wheels and tires.
Modification services developed for the Singer Vehicle Design ACS include:
- Off-road competition capability, conceived with events such as the Baja 1000 and Dakar Rally in mind, but suitable for a range of surfaces
- Dramatically increased ride height, suspension travel and overall strength
- Carbon fiber body panels suited to quick replacement and easy underbody access
- Permanent AWD
- A twin-turbocharged, 3.6L, air-cooled flat-six with power starting at 450hp.
- Sequential racing transmission with front, centre and rear limited-slip differentials.
