All the Porsches offered for sale by the major auction houses at Amelia Island

A few days ago we reported about the huge Porsche offerings in the Gooding&Co Auction at Amelia Island. And we can announce to you that over 20 more Porsches will be auctioned by both Bonhams & RM Sotheby’s at Amelia Island. That makes it a total of over 60 Porsches looking for a new caretaker. We’ll talk about some of them here, and at the end of the article, you can find a complete list of all Porsches auctioned at Amelia Island in about 2 weeks.

The Bonhams Amelia Island Auction

Porsche-550-0036

Bonhams offers 5 Porsches in their Amelia Island auction. Without any doubt the most important among them is the Porsche 550 Spyder. The factory delivered the car to Theo Helfrich, who campaigned it both in the 1956 and 1957 race season on different tracks in Germany. In 1957 the car changed hands for the first time. In 1958, a US citizen in military service in Germany acquired the car and shipped it to the USA in 1960. In 1972, the current owner, a reputable Porsche collector, bought the car and had it in its collection for 50 years. In the 1980s a first restoration started, and in 1998 a more comprehensive restoration was started. That restoration finished in 2003, and immediately after that it gained huge attention at the 2003 Rennsport Reunion. That was the last huge public appearance of the car. Even though we consider the estimation set by Bonhams rather high, we are convinced there will be some serious bidding for this ultra-rare gem. And we’re curious to see the final hammer price.

With the 1960 Porsche 356 Carrera Zagato Sanction Lost, RM Sotheby’s has an ultra-rare bird in the auction. Zagato built the car in 2016 on the chassis of a Porsche 356B. It is an exact recreation of the Porsche Zagato-Speedster raced by Claude Storez in 1958 and 1959. It is a unique car in that sense that only one Porsche 356 Speedster Zagata Sanction Lost was built. And on top of that it is one of only 3 Porsche 356 Zagato cars that came equipped with a 4-cam Carrera engine.
