31 year ago, 3 collectors of Porsche literature and toys thought it was a good idea to start a Porsche only literature and Toy Show. Prescot Kelly, Jim Perrin and Wayne Callaway joined forces and the LA Literature and Toy Show was born. Each and every year more and more vendors took part which kept the show growing.

Now in it’s 31st edition, the LA Literature and Toy Show was the largest ever. The 2 giant ballrooms of the Hilton LAX hotel were actually somewhat too small to place all the vendors, over 300 in total. The knowledge in the collectors world that the most desirable and wanted pieces might be offered at the show, made sure this year over 2000 visitors crowded the ballrooms stuffed with literature, parts and toys.

The early-bird visitors show up even before 7am together with the vendors, so they can throw an eye on what the latter are digging up from their boxes. There’s a lot of very rare stuff on the tables. Traditionally Jim Perin is selling some of his posters, mainly from the 50s era. Tony Singer has an amazing number of original posters and memorabilia for sale too. Maybe you were looking for parts ? No problem at all.. tables literally stuffed with bits and screws, carburettors, brakes or seals. Name it, and you’ll probably find it.

Among the very rare stuff that was being offered for sale, I noticed a Porsche 911 R manual that sold for 12.000 USD. Not the same price that it would reach at the Ladenburg auction but nevertheless a lot of money. The same seller had manuals for virtually every 4-cam powered car for sale, like the Porsche 550A Spyder, the Porsche 718 RSK, Porsche &!* RS60, Porsche 718 RS61 and the Porsche 904. Truly amazing, isn’t it, and an equally rare opportunity to acquire a holy grail like that.

Ofcourse you can see many happy faces, as people find the piece they’ve been looking for for many years. Vendors always do good business. And the organisation was happy with both the number of vendors and attendees. Next year there’s another show at the Hilton LAX, march 7th. Just make sure you’ll be there.
