Porsche Classic Village at the Zandvoort Historic GP 2018

Porsche always takes a prominent place at the Zandvoort Historic Grand-Prix. As soon as you come through the tunnel under the track to enter the paddocks, the Porsche Classic village welcomes you. The next edition of the Zandvoort Historic Grand Prix that takes place September  6th to September 8th promises to be fantastic again too. The Porsche Classic Village will not only have the traditional autograph sessions. There will be a Porsche Kids Corner too. Ofcourse there will be a Porsche shop, so you can get home with bags filled with Porsche goodies.

Revival of the 1961 Dutch Grand Prix

Porsche will contribute to the unique demo that will revive the 1961 Dutch Grand Prix. No less than 2 of the legendary Porsche 718/2 Formula 2 cars will take part in the demonstration. The Porsche Museum in Stuttgart brings one of the Porsche 718/2 Formula 2s. The other is part of the collection of the Prototyp Museum in Hamburg. In 1961 there were 4 Porsche’s 718/2 in the race. The Porsche factory team had Joakim Bonnier and Dan Gurney at the wheel. That same Dan Gurney would win the one and only Formula 1 race for Porsche as a manufacturer in 1962 in France. The dutch Ecurie Maasbergen entered the other 2 Porsche 718/2 in the 1961 Zandvoort GP. At the wheel were the owner of the team Carel Godin de Beaufort and Hans Herrmann

So far it is unknown who will take the wheel of the Porsche oneseater during the demonstration. However, we bet there will be another ducht driver at the wheel, like Gijs van Lennep or Jan Lammers. Furthermore, the Porsche Museum brings a Porsche 935/77. That particular car raced in the 1977 Le Mans 24Hours and the DRM Championship. In the hands of Jacky Ickx, the car nicknamed ‘Baby’ (935/2-001), consummately won the German GP-supporting DRM race at Hockenheim. The Porsche 914 was a special milestone in the history of Porsche, and the design will be 50 years old in 2019. To commemorate the fact, a special 914/6 will take to the track, and in addition, the members of the Porsche 914 Club will be special guests in the Porsche Classic Village on the Saturday of the Historic Grand Prix.

More recent is the Porsche 996 GT3 RSR that the Porsche Museum brings to Zandvoort. A car whose sound could be admired at the Porsche Sound Nacht 2018. And the Porsche 991 RSR that took part in the 2018 Le Mans 24H, in historic livery to celebrate 70 years Porsche will definitely be an eyecatcher too.

There are plenty of reasons to believe that this won’t be the only cars that Porsche will bring to the Zandvoort Historic GP. The question is : what cars will it be? Well there might be more. We believe the Porsche 935 that was presented last year at the Rennsport Reunion, makes a good chance. And why not, the brandnew Porsche Taycan, that will be presented to the public just a few days before the Zandvoort Historic GP takes off?
