Porsche 904 Carrera GTS at Bonhams Auction Scottsdale (c) Bonhams Auction

The most important car that is being auctioned at the Bonhams Scottsdale auction in 2019 is a 1954 Ferrari  500 Mondial Series I Spider.  The car has an extensive competition career and has celebrity fingerprints all over it. The  Ferrari 500 Mondial Spider was raced by raced by Phil Hill and Richie Ginther and was owned by the Porforio Rubirosa and John Von Neumann. Needless to say, this car will be subject to heavy bidding and Ferrari fans all over the world wait interested to see the final hammer price. Unfortunately, a Porsche gem like this does not come up for sale at the Bonhams Scottsdale auction in the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa, next January 17th.

However, with the Irish green Porsche 904 Carrera GTS (Chassis 904-012), Bonhams brings a car with some similarities. The Porsche 904 Carrera GTS was raced by Otto Zipper, and owned by actor Robert Redford and well-known Californian sportscar enthusiast and racer Steve Earle who found the popular Monterey Historic Races at Laguna Seca, California. The Porsche 904 Carrera GTS was officially sold to Mr. Earle through Otto Zipper’s Precision Motor Cars of Beverly Hills, California. The car would be the ideal entry into historic racing or high-speed rallies such as the Tour Auto in France. Moreover, the car would be a superb candidate to change back to its original Silver Metallic livery while it raced for Otto Zipper’s Precision Motor Cars.

Porsche 356 Carrera 2 Cabriolet (Chassis 1588183)

Another Porsche that’s worth mentioning is the 1963 Porsche 356 Carrera2 GS Cabriolet (Chassis 1588183). When in 1955 Porsche presented the Porsche 356 Carrera, the sales price was approximately 50% more expensive compared to a normal push-rod engine. Obviously,  the Porsche 356 equipped with the Fuhrmann engine, named after designer Ernst Fuhrmann, was not the most common cars on the road. Approximately 70.000 Porsche 356 left the factory. Only about 64 of them were the open version with the Carrera 2 engine? That makes this car a very rare gem. The current owner is selling the car after 30 years of single ownership with little more than 100.000 km on the clock and fitted with matching numbers engine, presents in thoroughly stunning condition with absolutely no deviation from its original specification. We predict a price well over $1.000.000.

Of course, Bonhams offers more Porsches for sale in the Scottsdale auction, but we cannot say we are very excited about them. But don’t misunderstand, the other Porsche’s are definitely worth to take a look at. They’re just not the rarest Porsche’s you can find or cars with a great history. But better check them out as the Porsche street you are looking for, might come on the block.
