In contradiction with the Bonhams Quail Lodge Auction last year in Monterey, there are no real exceptionally rare cars to be auctioned this August. But, don’t misunderstand me. I am not telling you the cars that will come on the block are ordinary cars. On the contrary. Bonhams offers some great looking Porsche 356 to the public, just no race cars or very limited series Porsches.

There’s not much known about the history of the  1956 Porsche 356A Speedster. It is equipped with a period-correct engine, even though it had the engine changed, probably somewhere in the 90s. The car has been in dry storage since 1999, making this a great car for a good restauration. Or you could just make it road worthy and jump in the seats.

The other Porsche 356A Speedster that will be hammered is a car from 1957. It is considered one of the best Speedsters available. Not only is it matching number, the car has under 30.000 kms on the tacho, which makes it quite exceptional. Road Scholars, the renowned Porsche specialist from North Caroline (See Porsche Unexpected ), acquired the car in 2009 and ordered a complete restoration.

The work performed was very extensive, and covered both mechanical and cosmetic aspects of the car. The cars history file is very impressive, and deserves close examination. Further accompanying items include the Porsche-issued Certificate of Authenticity, books and tools, and a lovely period radio is installed in the dash.  This is probably ine of the absolute best optioned and lowest-mile Speedsters, that deserves to go to a good collection.
