The Porsches at the Paris Auctions

2 Porsche prototypes cross the block

We’ve hardly started the year and another important classic car auction is coming up. After the Scottsdale Auctions had no extra-ordinary results next to some unexecpected unsold Porsches, of course we all are looking forward to what the Auctions in Paris, on the occasion of the Retromobile will bring. Especially since 2 Porsche prototypes are being auctioned : the 1964 Porsche 901 Cabriolet prototype and the Porsche 917/10 Spyder prototype. No doubt both cars will be hammered for high prices.

RM Sotheby

The 1964 Porsche 901 Cabriolet Prototype is the 2nd earliest known surviving Porsche 901. Chassis number 13360 is the only open-top 901 cabriolet prototype ever built. It is an extremely well kept and original car in great condition. It will definitely go to a major collection, and actally my personal opinion is that this car should be bought by the Porsche Museum.

Another eye-catcher of the auction is without any doubt the Porsche 917/10 Prototype. This is the same car that was for sale by Jan Lühn at the 2015 Techno Classica.  Early 917 the Porsche 917 with chassis number 917/10-001  began wind-tunnel development at Porsche’s Weissach R&D facility and ran up countless test miles—including 23 consecutive days on the Weissach skidpad. A 16-month on-track testing program saw such top-level drivers as Willi Kauhsen, Jo Siffert, Mark Donohue, and the factory’s chief test pilot, Herrman Mimler, recording laps at Weissach, Hockenheim, and the Nürburgring. This chassis also served as the test-bed for the turbocharged flat-12s that would come to dominate Group 7 Prototype racing.  The expected price is accordingly :  €4.600.000 – €5.500.000

More recent but another important car that’s coming on the block : the 2016 Porsche 911 R. This Porsche 911R with chassis number 967/991 is one of the last built. It is the only PTS (paint to sample) delivered in France. With just 600 km on the tacho, this is a pristine Porsche 911R that definitely will bring a high price. After all, this is one of the most sought after Porsche 911s at this moment.

When you are looking for a current racer, you might consider the 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR that will be auctioned. This particular car ran to victory in the 2010 Spa 24H  with Martin Ragginger, Wolf Henzler, Jorg Bergmaister, and Romain Dumas at the wheel. That same year it gained a 3rd in class in the 2010 Le Mans 24H with Richard Westbrook, Marco Holzer, and Timo Scheide. This is one of probably 2 cars being built in 2010.

When it comes to supercars, Porsche managed to set a new standard when it presented the Porsche 959.  A limited number of cars left the factory. Recently they start coming up for sale more and more. If you missed your chance at the Scottsdale Auctions, here’s another opportunity to acquire a piece of Porsche history. However, this is not just a Porsche 959. Only 29 Porsche 959 Sports were built and this is one of them. Another interesting part in the history of the car is that is was originally bought by Vasek Polak Jr.
