40th anniversary party of the Group C Porsches at Retro Classics Stuttgart

Celebrating 40 years of Porsche 956 at the Retroclassics in Stuttgart

Despite being smaller than usual, neither the Paris Retromobile Show nor the Techno Classica in Essen disappointed us. We knew about the Retro Classics classic car show in Stuttgart to be only half the size of the previous editions. However, that didn’t stop us from jumping in our car to head direction Stuttgart, where a petrolhead always enjoys his stay.

In contradiction to the Techno Classica show, Porsche could not afford not to be present at the classic car show in its hometown. We headed immediately to the Porsche Museum’s stand in Hall 1. Just a few meters after we entered the hall, we noticed a Porsche 956 and Porsche 962 for sale. One was the Porsche 956-102 once in service with the John Fitzpatrick racing team. The other was the Porsche 962-141 in TicTac livery, well known from the Group C racing at several classic car races.

We’ve known other entries at a classic car show. And we didn’t realize what hat to come. The Porsche Museum stand was one great exhibition to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Porsche 956. 40 years ago, the first Porsche 956-001 started its first test laps in Weissach. Porsche presented the 956/962 sports prototype from the period 1982 to 1985, with Le Mans winners such as the Rothmans Porsche and also the currently fully restored Porsche 962 in the black-yellow-red livery of sponsor Shell with the legendary PDK transmission.

Porsche Clubs Germany

Display of the transaxle Porsche Clubs

The Porsche clubs of Germany presented themself right next to the Porsche Museum stand. From the Porsche 356 over the classic Porsche 911, and not to forget the transaxle Porsches. Fans of each model could inform themself about the appropriate Porsche Club and eventually join.

Cars, Parts, Toys,…

You can imagine we spent a long time at the Porsche stand. But hey, there are more cars to discover of course.  We didn’t count the number of Porsches that were for sale. But it must have been dozens and dozens. The Retro Classics show makes clear how popular Porsche is, especially in its hometown. Unfortunately, the fans of the real early Porsches could not see that many Porsche 356, in contradiction to the Techno Classica Essen, where quite a few pre=A Porsche 356s showed up.

The Retro Classics show in Stuttgart is well known among toy collectors. And once again a whole bunch of exhibitors had a huge variety of toys for sale, in all sizes and prices. Parts, literature and memorabilia could be found in the same hall.

Despite being far smaller than we were used to, we can only say that the 2022 edition of the Retro Classics in Stuttgart was a huge success. And we’re looking forward to 2023, hoping that it will be even beter and larger. See you there. and in the meantime, flip through the pictures underneath.
