Porsche unveils 911 GT3 S/C: the first open-top GT3

Porsche has expanded the 911 GT3 family with a completely new variant that focuses on pure driving enjoyment: the 911 GT3 S/C. For the first time in the model’s history, the GT3 is available as a cabriolet with a fully automatic roof, combining open-air driving with the brand’s most track-focused road car philosophy

At the heart of the new model is the familiar 4.0-litre naturally aspirated flat-six engine from the GT3. Delivering 510 PS and 450 Nm of torque, the high-revving unit reaches up to 9,000 rpm and remains one of the most emotional engines in the segment.

The GT3 S/C – short for Sport Cabriolet – is designed with a clear emphasis on driver engagement. In keeping with that philosophy, it is offered exclusively with a short-ratio six-speed manual transmission. The car is also configured as a strict two-seater, underlining its focus on purity and driving connection.

Lightweight engineering plays a central role in the concept. Porsche has drawn heavily from the 911 S/T, integrating numerous components made from carbon-fibre reinforced plastic. These include the bonnet, front wings and doors, as well as elements of the chassis such as the rear anti-roll bar and underbody panels. The use of magnesium for wheels and structural parts of the roof further contributes to weight reduction.

Despite the addition of a fully automatic convertible system, the GT3 S/C maintains a remarkably low overall weight, ensuring the agile and precise handling expected from a GT-badged 911. The lightweight approach extends into the cabin, where reduced-mass materials, minimalist trim and optional carbon bucket seats reinforce the car’s performance focus.

Visually, the new model stands apart through a distinctive combination of GT3 and S/T design elements. The carbon-fibre body panels and a characteristic black windscreen surround give the car a unique identity within the 911 range. At the rear, the classic fixed wing of the GT3 is replaced by a retractable spoiler adapted to the cabriolet layout.

The driving experience is further enhanced by chassis technology derived from other GT models, delivering high levels of precision and feedback, especially on demanding roads. Porsche positions the GT3 S/C not as a track-focused lap-time machine, but as a car that maximises emotional driving pleasure, particularly in open-air conditions.

911 GT3 S/C Street Style Package

For customers seeking additional individuality, Porsche offers a newly developed Street Style package. This option introduces distinctive exterior accents and bespoke interior details, allowing further personalisation through Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur.

Unlike previous special open-top GT models, the 911 GT3 S/C is not a limited-production vehicle. This makes it a more accessible entry into Porsche’s GT portfolio, while still delivering an experience that combines high-revving performance, lightweight construction and the unique appeal of open-top driving.

With the introduction of the 911 GT3 S/C, Porsche brings together two worlds that were previously separate: the uncompromising performance of the GT3 and the sensory appeal of a cabriolet. The result is a driver-focused sports car that offers a new dimension of engagement, both on winding roads and beyond.
