A little bit of everything, that’s what the RM Sotheby’s Auction at Amelia Island has to offer on the Porsche front. From a low-budget 1988 Porsche 924S over the transaxle predecessor of the modern Porsche Panamera : the Porsche 928 all the range of Porsche sportscars up to the 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder and the 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS with Weissach option package.

It is hard to set a Porsche in the RM Sotheby’s Auction at Amelia Island in the spotlight due to the diversity of cars in the auction. Since the Bonhams Auction at Amelia Island had 2 RUF Porsches, we might pick the 1990 Porsche RUF BTR Carrera 4 Turbo.  The black Porsche 911 offered here is no longer a mere Carrera 4. It was built up by RUF in Pfaffenhausen, Germany, in 1991 as a 385-hp RUF BTR. After that the car still had a tune-up, making it a full RUF BTR conversion nowadays with 425 hp. The car was used at the Virginia City Hill Climb and the Silver State Classic in Nevada. The RUF BTR is pictured in a 1993 Autoweek magazine report on the Virginia City Hill Climb.

Another RUF in the RM Sotheby’s Auction at Amelia Island is a RUF CR4, custom ordered by the Japanese RUF Importer. Ishida Engineering, the Japanese RUF distributor with a knack for ordering unusual cars, commissioned two nearly identical left-hand-drive models finished in Satin Black—save for one major mechanical difference. One would be a CR2, with rear-wheel drive, and the other was the all-wheel-drive CR4 offered here. The car was kept in the owner’s personal collection and used only sparingly. The one-off RUF CR4 moved to California in 2016 after having changed  hands in Japan a few times before it came back to the RUF Importer. The car now has just under 92,000 kms and has only a limited number of signs of use.

For the fans of the early Porsche’s, the 1962 Porsche 356B Super 90 Twin Grill Roadster might be a good choice. Chassis 89665 is one of only 58 Super 90 “T6” roadsters produced. A fairly rare bird, and with the super 90 engine, it could even be a reliable daily driver  for the courageous among us living in a sunny country. However, be prepared to dig deep in your wallet as this one might fetch a high price.
