Chantilly Arts and Elegance

18.000 visitors at the Chantilly Arts & Elegance Richard Mille

The Chantilly Arts & Elegance is a Peter Auto Event that is somewhat other than usual. What comes in a classic car lover’s mind when he thinks about a Peter Auto event ? Speed, classic sports cars chasing each other on a legendary track somewhere in Europe. And that is exact what you won’t find at the Chantilly Arts & Elegance. In it’s fifth edition now, the event at the Chantilly chateau domain attracted approximately 18.000 visitors. For sure, the weather was one of the reasons  for the large crowd.

Anniversaries

But the most important reason is the qualifty of the cars on display at the event. The concours d’Elegance lived up to its expectations, and the visitors enjoyed a Sunday in the country, parades of exceptional cars as well as numerous activities for young and old alike. Several celebrations of different anniversaries were the main ingredient of the event :   Bentley’s and Ballot’s centenary, Bugatti’s 110th,  the 50th  anniversary of the iconic Porsche 917, the Pagani Zonda’s 20th and the 50th of Jackie Stewart’s Formula 1 world title with the Matra.  This year set another record with nine concept-cars in competition in the Concours d’Elegance.

No need to tell you that the Porsche 917s on display were absolute eye-catchers. The Porsche 917 is one of the models hat helped Porsche to build a solid reputation in endurance racing, particularly at the Le Mans 24 Hours. With 19 overall victories, Porsche is absolute master at Le Mans. And it was in a Porsche 917 that Porsche took its first overall victory at La Sarthe.  To celebrate the 50th anniversary of this iconic car, an exhibition of three superb models of Porsche 917 KH, LH and even one of the rare examples approved for the road.

This racing car (chassis 917-030) is one of the few and most importantly the first Porsche 917 to have been approved for road use and with a license plate. To achieve this, it was not easy. But its then owner – Count Gregorio Rossi di Montelera, former owner of Martini & Rossi – managed to do so in the American state of Alabama, provided that it never comes to drive there!
