Few people have had more influence on a company and its products and sportive results as Peter Falk had on Porsche. Peter Falk had an apprentice job during his engineering studies at Daimler-Benz. However, after his studies he applied for a job at both Bosch and Porsche. He believed this to be companies were ambitious young man weren’t just small cogs in a big company wheel. Both Bosch and Porsche offered Peter Falk a job. He made a choice that would influence the live of them both : Porsche.
The author , Wilfried Müller was given all the information first hand from Peter Falk himself. Peter Falk wanted the focus of the book on the people, and the adventures they had around the world in the 33 years that Peter Falk worked for Porsche. In these 33 years, Peter Falk has had influence on the development of most of the cars built in that period. From the first Porsche 901 through the last aircoooled Porsche 993, every Porsche 911 bears the signature of Peter Falk.
Most succesful race director in Porsche history
When Peter Falk moved to the race department in the mid sixties, there were absolute no signs that this career turn would be this successful. Maybe fairly unknown but Peter Falk was one of the team members in the 1967 Monza World Record runs with the Porsche 911R. Peter Falk was appointed race director in 1981, and lead Porsche through it’s most successful period in competition. Le Mans victories, World Sport Car Champions, Paris-Dakar Rally and victories in the Fornula 1 with the TAG Turbo engine. During his career in the race department, Peter Falk worked with some of the greatest racers like Hans Herrmann, Jacky Ickx, Jo Siffert, Jochen Rindt, Kurt Ahrens, Willy Kauhsen, Jochen Mass to name just a few.
Wilfried Müller has done a terrific job in writing the memoires of Peter Falk. He shares Peter Falk’s personal Porsche stories in a way that brings you back in the time. A great read and decorated with over 500 pictures, many of them coming from the personal archives of Peter Falk. There is no way a Porsche adept would not want this book in his library. The book brings a great insight in the thinking and doing of one of the guys that wrote Porsche history. A great addition to any Porsche or race library.
