Exactly as the previous years, Marco Marinello and Paul-Ernst Strähle jr joined forces to bring Porsche collectors and Porsche fans together in the Barbara Kunkelin-Halle in Schorndorf. It is over 10 years now that the winter started with the Porsche Swap Meetin the little and cosy town Schorndorf, not that far from the Porsche headquarters in Zuffenhausen.
Even though the citizens from Schorndorf are used to see Porsche driving around in their town, they realise from early in the morning that the Porsche Swap Meet will take place that weekend. No matter where you see in town, you can see flat-four and flat-6 powered cars roll at a slow pace through the tiny streets, looking for a parking spot. Porsche fans from all over Europe, some even crossing the ocean and flying in from the USA, gather at the door early in the morning to get in soon. There’s no such thing as an early bird pass here, but truth is you better be early in, when you want to find the rare gems.
And exactly as every year, there were some truly rare gems to be found. No matter if you are into collecting literature, memorabilia or looking for parts to complete the restoration of your early Porsche, there’s a huge chance you’ll find the needed parts or get in touch with another Porsche fan who might have what you are looking for.
After all, a swap meet as this one is’t only about the parts or literature, but it is about getting in contact with other people sharing the same passion, and enlarging your Porsche network. Enjoying an exquisite German beer, meeting old friends and making new ones. And you might even combine it with visits to the 2 major museums in Stuttgart : the Porsche Museum and Mercedes-Benz Museum.
Be ready to book your hotel for next year early.
